The File Information window displays the following information about files:
Name The name of the file.
Path The drive and folder where the file is located.
Size The size of the file in bytes.
Type The type of the file as reported by Windows.
Attributes The file’s attributes. This information may be abbreviated, in which case these definitions apply:
Created The date the file was created.
Written The date the file was last written, that is, modified. This is the date most commonly seen and used. This is the date that shows in the right pane of Windows Explorer, labeled “Contents of….”
Accessed The date the file was last accessed.
To Display File Information for a Single File
In Finders, with the File Information window open, click on a line in the Results list box. The line may be a file name or a line from the file.
In Keepers | Indexes, click on a file name in the “File Names…” list box.
To Display File Information for All Files
In Finders, perform an operation, such as Find or Touch, to get Results containing file names. Then, in the File Information window, click on the button labeled “Get File Information.”
In Keepers | Indexes, open an index. In the File Information window, click on the button labeled “Get File Information.”
Local Menu
To access a local pop-up menu, right-click the mouse on a line in the File Information window. The following choices are on the Local Menu.
Open File in Text Viewer Open the selected file* in the Text Viewer.
Open File in Binary Viewer Open the selected file in the Binary Viewer.
Open with Default Viewer Open the selected file with the Default Viewer specified in Options - Results|Viewers.
Open with Associated File Open the selected file with its Windows Associated File.
Open with Quick View Open the selected file with Quick View.
Browse for Opener Browse for a file and open the selected file with it.
*A “selected file” is the single file showing on the “File” page, or the highlighted file showing on the “All Files” page. Left click a file on the “All Files” page to select and highlight the file.
Docking the File Information Window
You can dock (attach) the File Information window to the main window. To do so, follow these steps:
To undock the window, click on the undocking grip, which appears as two parallel ridges on the docked window, and drag the window out of its docked position.
