Early Stops
Use Early Stops to limit the number of matches made during Find or Replace operations. For any or all match conditions, you may enter zero (0) for no limit (actually, a limit of 2,147,483,647). Do not put commas into your entries of numbers. Do not enter a number larger than 2,147,483,647.
- Stop early on conditions Checkmark this box to put the Early Stops into effect, according to your entries in the match conditions below. If this box is not checkmarked, these match conditions are ignored during operations. NOTE: If you want to find every possible match during Find or Replace operations, do not checkmark this box.
- # Matches per file Enter a number to limit the matches for each file. During Find or Replace operations, if this number of matches is found in a file, further operation on the file stops. The operation continues with other files. Enter zero (0) for no limit.
- # Total matches Enter a number to limit the total matches made during a Find or Replace operation. When this number is reached, the operation is stopped. Remaining files, if any, are skipped. Enter zero (0) for no limit.
- # Files with matches Enter a number to limit the number of files found with matches during a Find or Replace operation. When this number is reached, the operation is stopped. Remaining files, if any, are skipped. Enter zero (0) for no limit.
NOTE: If both #Total matches and #Files with matches are in effect, that is, non-zero, the Early Stop occurs for whichever number is reached first.
File Filters
Use File Filters during Find, Replace, Touch, List, and Make-index operations to exclude files by date or size.
- Use filters to operate on files Checkmark this box to put the file filters into effect. If this box is not checkmarked, the file filters are ignored during operations. NOTE: If you want to find every possible match during Find or Replace operations, do not checkmark this box.
- On or After Enter a date from 1/1/1600 to 12/31/3999. Files with a last-modified date earlier than the entered date will not be processed. Files with the same or later date will be processed. The file-date filters are inclusive. Enter 1/1/1600 to avoid excluding files with this filter even when others filters are used.
- On or Before Enter a date from 1/1/1600 to 12/31/3999. Files with a last-modified date later than the entered date will not be processed. Files with the same or earlier date will be processed. Enter 12/31/3999 to avoid excluding files with this filter.
- Larger than Enter a file size. Only files larger than the entered size will be processed. The file-size filters are exlusive; so, a file of the same size you enter will be excluded. Enter 0 to avoid excluding files with this filter.
- Smaller than Enter a file size. If you enter a size other than 0, only files smaller than the entered size will be processed. Enter 0 to avoid excluding files with this filter. NOTE: Enter zero (0) here for no upper limit on the file size.
Always Skip Extensions
There may be some types of files that you want skipped during operations, especially Find, Replace, and Make-index operations. For example, you may want to exclude all executable files. A sample list of extensions is in the list box when Finders Keepers™ is first installed. To skip a type of file, checkmark its extension in the list of extensions. To designate a new type of file to be skipped, enter its file extension in the list box by using the Add button, and then click on the added file extension to checkmark it. Extensions that are not checkmarked are not skipped.
- Add To add an extension, type it without a period into the edit box just above the Add button, then click the Add button. The extension will appear in the list of extensions. Simply adding the extension to the list box does not cause the extension to be skipped. You must also checkmark the extension.
- Remove To remove an extension from the list, first select it in the list box by clicking on it. When selected, an extension is highlighted. Click the Remove button to remove the selected extension from the list. If you do not want to skip an extension, you do not have to remove it from the list; just click on the extension to turn its checkmark off. Note that if you remove all extensions, the next time you start the program, Finders Keepers™ will restore a sample list of extensions.
- Toggle All Toggle all checkmarks in the list box on or off. If anything is checkmarked, all checkmarks are toggled off. If nothing is checkmarked, all checkmarks are toggled on.
NOTE: Choosing to skip “zip” extensions here does not have anything to do with Options - Find|Archives|Search in Zip files. That option is for searching the files inside Zip files, not the Zip files themselves.
