Display in Each Editor

Horizontal scrollbar Place a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom of the editor. If text lines exceed the window’s width, you may use the horizontal scrollbar to scroll the ends of the lines into view. A horizontal scrollbar is optional because the left and right arrow keys, as well as the Home and End keys, will scroll horizontally.

Vertical scrollbar Place a vertical scrollbar on the right edge of the editor. A vertical scrollbar is optional because the up and down arrow keys, as well as the PgUp and PgDn keys, will scroll vertically.

Format toolbar Display a toolbar containing buttons for the most common formatting commands, such as bold, italic, font, font size, and so on.

Include stylesheets Include on the format toolbar a drop-down list of formatting styles. See (Font) Style, (Paragraph) Style.

Ruler Display a ruler at the top of the editor. Use the ruler to set paragraph tabs and margins. See Set Tab.

Status banner Place a status banner at the bottom of the editor that shows the current page, line, and column number.

Thin margin around text Select this option to show a very thin margin around text in an editor. This margin, which is for cosmetics only, affects only the text on screen, not on the printed page.

Measures & Numbers

Use centimeters Use centimeters instead of inches for rulers and dialogs.

Swap commas and periods Numbers are expressed differently in various locales. For example, one thousand may be 1,000.00 or 1.000,00. If numbers in dialogs are not showing properly for your locale, check mark this to swap commas and periods.

Default Font Choose a default font for new files from the drop-down list of available fonts. When you start a new file, this font is used for new lines that you type. Of course, the default is not binding and you may change the font of any text at any time.

Font Size Choose the size of the default font.

See other options in Set Options.
