Manage

In Keepers | Manage, you can rename, move, or delete indexes you have created in Keepers | Indexes. You can import a Finders Keepers™ index. In addition, you can edit the “skip words” file, which determines what words are ignored during the making of an index.

Each index consists of four or more files that you do not have to deal with, and should not deal with, directly. Use this Manage section instead, so that for any index, all related files are renamed appropriately, or moved to the same place, or deleted.

Rename/Move/Delete/Import The button on the Keepers | Manage page will have the caption “Rename,” “Move,” “Delete,” or “Import” according to the Operation you select. Choose the Operation from the drop-down list, explained below, and then click this button to perform the operation. All these operations except “Import” will ask for a confirmation before proceeding.

Operation The name of the current operation appears beside the label “Operation.” Click on the drop-down list’s down arrow in order to see the following choices.

Rename Rename the index that is highlighted in the “Index” list box.

New Name Enter in this edit box the new name for the renaming of the index. This edit box is visible only when the operation is Rename.

Move Move the index that is highlighted in the “Index” list box.

New Folder Enter in this edit box the folder to which the index is to be moved. This edit box is visible only when the operation is Move.

Delete Delete the index that is highlighted in the “Index” list box.

Import Import a Finders Keepers™ index into the library of indexes. NOTE that the index itself is left in its original location. Only references to it are imported into your library of indexes. This function is useful when you want to use an index that was not created by your local copy of Finders Keepers™, for instance, an index on a network server.

Import Index Enter in this edit box the name of the index to import. This edit box is visible only when the operation is Import. Click on the button to the right of the edit box to select an index by browsing for it.

Skip Words During indexing, there are many words that may be skipped because indexing them has little meaning, and they may greatly swell the size of the index if they are included. Examples are “I,” “am,” “there,” “or,” “here.” To see the complete list of words skipped during indexing, click on the “Skip Words” button. The Text Viewer will open the file “skipword.txt” that exists in the folder where you installed Finders Keepers™. (It must remain in that folder.) When making an index, Finders Keepers™ ignores occurrences of any word included in the skip-words file. You may add or remove words from the skip-words file. Add only one word to a line—that is the only rule to keep the file “skipword.txt” working properly for the indexing. Save the file when you are done editing it. The next time you Make an index, the new “skipword.txt” file will be used, and all the words it contains will be ignored during indexing.
