Enable the editing of existing footnotes. When this option is selected, as indicated by a check mark on the menu, the editor displays in-line footnote text alongside footnote markers to allow you to edit footnote text. The in-line footnote text appears underlined with dashes.
NOTE that although a footnote appears at the bottom of a page, its text is created and edited within the body of the page at the location of its footnote marker. When the Edit Footnote option is turned off, the in-line text is hidden, and the footnote appears only at the bottom of the page.
