Find Options

Options and Actions on the Find Menu or Toolbar

Plain-text Search Make the Find operation a plain-text search. What you enter for a Find is treated literally.

Regular Expression Search Make Find a regular-expression search. What you enter for a Find is treated as a Regular Expression in which some characters have special effects that determine what is searched for.

Approximate Search Make Find an approximate search. What you enter for a Find is searched for with a number of errors, or discrepancies, allowed. You set the number of allowed errors.

Sound-alike Search Make Find a sound-alike search. What you enter for a Find is reduced and converted to a core, alphabetically represented sound. See Four Ways to Find.

Search Subfolders During Find or Replace operations, include the subfolders that belong to the Folder(s) you designated.

Match Whole Words During Find or Replace, match only whole words.

Case-sensitive Search During Find or Replace, match the upper or lower case of all characters.

Boolean Expression During Find or Replace operations, if what you entered for a Find is in the form “this and that or the other,” your entry is treated as a simple boolean expression.

Retrieve Files from Backup Retrieve backup files that were created during replace operations. See Retrieve Files Dialog.
