Paste Special

Paste special contents of the clipboard into the editor, such as a picture or a spreadsheet. A dialog opens and displays the source of the clipboard data, if known, and a “Data Type” list. The data types may be any of the following.

Native Object Format

If the clipboard contains data from another application which may be pasted as an editable object, that data’s format will be the first data type listed. For example, if you copied a Microsoft Excel worksheet to the clipboard, the first data type will be “Microsoft Excel Worksheet Object.” A pasted object may be edited with the originating application by double clicking on the object in the editor. To embed the pasted object in your document, click on the Paste button in the dialog. To create a link to the pasted object’s original file, click on the Paste Link button. In either case, the pasted object appears in your document. The difference is that when only the link is pasted, the document must get the object from its original file when the document is opened because the object is not stored within the document itself. See also: Edit OLE Object.

Formatted Text

This data type represents formatted text in the clipboard, such as data in the rich text format (RTF). Choose this type for clipboard data copied from another application that creates formatted text. This data type preserves font and formatting attributes accurately.

Unformatted Text

Select this data type to paste unformatted text data.

Picture

This type represents clipboard data in the Picture format. After pasting, you can edit the picture object with Microsoft Draw by double clicking on it. If you have a choice between this format and one of the bitmap formats, choose this because bitmaps are larger and have editing limitations.

Bitmap or Device Independent Bitmap

This type represents clipboard data in one of the bitmap formats. After pasting, you can edit the picture by double clicking on it. The editor will convert the bitmap format into the Picture format and then call MS Draw for the editing of the picture.
