TEXT SEARCHESA text search program that is fast and easy, can replace text, and performs indexed text retrieval too, can save you time and trouble. Searching for text is an interruption of thought that most writers can do without.
SEARCH TEXT 4 WAYSPerform a search 4 ways : plain text, regular expressions, approximate, and sound-alike. You can search text in any kind of file. The regular expressions provide a grep-like search. The approximate and sound-alike searches enable you to search files for a word or a name even when you do not know how to spell it, or it has been misspelled in files. A search is fast when you have Finders KeepersTM search file by file. But if you let it index all your files for an index-based text retrieval, then the search takes only an instant. You can view results of searches 6 different ways. REPLACE TEXT SAFELYFinders KeepersTM can search and replace words or expressions in files with blazing speed--and keep backups of all changed files. If you need to, you can password-disable the functions that perform replacements. Then Finders KeepersTM will find words or expressions, but it will not replace anything. This is a safety feature for the replace operation. To restore replace operations when you want to, just re-enter the password. FOR NON-TECHNICAL USERS...Three of the four methods for finding words or expressions with Finders KeepersTM are "non-technical": Plain, Sound-alike, and Approximate. In the first two of these, you don't have to set anything; in the Approximate method, all you set is how many errors, or discrepancies, you want to allow in the spelling--usually 1 or 2. The Plain method will find just what you type in; but the Sound-alike and Approximate methods will find words or phrases that are close to what you type in. FOR ADVANCED USERS...Finders KeepersTM has many features to suit the advanced user, including regular expressions, scores of options, batch mode, built-in binary and ASCII viewers, and indexed information retrieval. KEEP YOUR FINDINGS...Finders KeepersTM can optionally save your results. What good that will do depends on your occupation or preoccupation. For example, keep results so you don't have to look for the same thing again the next time you forget where it is. Keep results because later you are going to use File | Copy Selected Files... to take your found files to class, court, or meeting on a disk, or to send your found files to your portable computer. Let Finders KeepersTM do the search--you do the thinking. |
